Hello!

My name is Mason Jones, and I'm a 5th year engineering student at Northeastern University with a passion for the aerospace field. I’ve been fascinated by air and spacecraft for as long as I can remember and I’ve had my heart set on working in aerospace engineering since middle school. This dream was finally realized with my previous co-op experiences at GE Aviation and I hope to continue in aerospace for a full-time role!

My Background

I grew up in Plymouth, MA where I was first exposed to the wonders of flight in the form of toy RC planes and books about old military aircraft. As a kid I would watch the space shuttle launches, attend air shows and play countless hours of Microsoft Flight Simulator which I was very lucky to have equipped with a real pilot's control stick! When middle school came around I started to realistically consider what I wanted to be when I grew up. All of my searches led me to aerospace engineering and I've been following that path ever since!

After moving to Cape Cod for high school, I was able to develop my passion for aviation further by building my own RC plane from scratch for a school science fair. This was a rough build, and although it didn't win any awards, it provided me with a basic intuition for flight mechanics and the challenges of constructing an aerodynamically stable airframe. I decided that I would continue on my engineering journey by choosing to major in Mechanical Engineering at Northeastern University.

My time at Northeastern allowed me to drastically improve my skills as an engineer and a person. The cooperative education program helped me gain 1.5 years of real world experience at 2 great companies over the course of 3 co-op assignments.

During my first co-op at C&K Components I developed foundational CAD skills working with the company's draftsmen in Creo Parametric 6.0 to convert, clean and correct hundreds of legacy CAD files into a consistent company format. My second co-op, at GE Aviation, is where I gained critical hands-on manufacturing experience in a fast paced shop environment producing jet engine parts with extremely tight tolerances. My third co-op, also with GE Aviation, allowed me to develop the business acumen that ties my experience with design and manufacturing together. Through my work on custom services contracts for international militaries, mapping a mathematically complex and interdisciplinary proposal generation process, presenting to senior leadership and leading a value stream mapping event at company headquarters, I was able to see a side of the business rarely experienced by young engineers.

I am incredibly grateful for the mentorship and guidance I have received along the way and I can't wait to get back into the aerospace field!

Thank you!

Mason
